Lenticular Pop Up Card

Lenticular Pop Up Card

Very cute flip effect idea of a greeting card but, I wouldn't call it Lenticular as the print doesn't have a Lenticular lens in the front of the lens.

Lenticular printing is a technology in which a lenticular lens is used to produce images with an illusion of depth, or the ability to change or move as the image is viewed from different angles. Examples of lenticular printing include prizes given in Cracker Jack snack boxes that showed flip and animation effects such as winking eyes, and modern advertising graphics that change their message depending on the viewing angle. This technology was created in the 1940s but has evolved in recent years to show more motion and increased depth. Originally used mostly in novelty items and commonly called "wiggle pictures," lenticular prints are now being used as a marketing tool to show products in motion. Recent advances in large-format presses have allowed for oversized lenses to be used in lithographic lenticular printing.[1

Photoshop CS4 Extended and 3D Depth Lenticular

Photoshop CS4 Extended and 3D Depth Lenticular

Lenticular has been around for quite sometime, but due to the many advances in computer to plate technologies, new lenses, as well as interlacing software, it has come a long way from the old religious images sitting in some living room. Indeed, Lenticular technology started in 1940s but has evolved in recent years to show more motion and increased depth.

Now there are many Lenticular applications, from 3D computer monitors, Postcards, Mailers, DVD Covers to Posters, Magnets, Greeting Cards, Rulers, Luggage Tags and many more. This is possible due to the ability to print on PET 75, 100 and 161 lpi lenses (Polyethylene terephthalate), a lightweight polyester, with greater flexibility to transform it into everyday promotional items.

One such software participating in the advancement of Lenticular printing is the new Adobe’s Photoshop CS4 Extended. Adobe expert Dr. Russell Brown has posted a set of tutorials and sample files at his website at www.russellbrown.com that shows how Photoshop is able to create lenticular prints. Dr. Russell Brown is the senior creative director at Adobe, and stars in many Photoshop tutorials and videos. He raves about the feasibility of this new progress of Photoshop CS4, especially its upcoming Configurator utility. This exciting new feature on Photoshop CS4 is definitely a useful tool for aspiring Lenticular graphic designers.

Canada Promo Market reached $3.5 billion for 2007

www.LenticularPromo.com, LANTOR,LTD. (asi/66260), is the leading 3D Lenticular Printing and products supplier at the promotional products industry. Canadian markets are big share of www.LenticularPromo.com 's sales. Lantor has learned that advertising specialty sales grow rapidly in Canada. But Lantor, Ltd also experienced economic slow down in both US and Canadian markets.

ASI publication Counselor PromoGram reported on June 24 that Promotional products revenue in Canada reached $3.5 billion for 2007, rising by 60% in the last four years, according to a study released last week by the Promotional Product Professionals of Canada. Figures from past studies in 2003 and 2000 indicate that sales have more than tripled in the industry since the turn of the decade. "One of the big things is our medium's being accepted," says Steve Levschuk, president and owner of Talbot Marketing (asi/341500), based in London, Ontario. "It's not just a giveaway. I think it's a line item on some of these large national advertiser's budgets now. It's not just an afterthought."

Suppliers and distributors in Canada say the success behind the numbers is no secret. Increased sophistication and expansion in the industry is fostering across-the-board growth. And the stability of the Canadian economy in the past few years has benefited all sectors, not just promotional products. "It's been doing well the last few years," says Superex Vice President Michael Gisser about Canada's economic prosperity. "That translates into growing sales."
This year, however, does not look as promising. Canada, like the U.S. And the rest of the world, has been plagued by economic troubles. Sales for both Superex and Talbot are down from 2007. "If the U.S. Sneezes, Canada catches a cold, is the popular expression," Gisser says. "There's no denying it. Our sales in Ontario are down, and I believe that's reflective of what's going on in the States."
